Anti-Design Design Trend that the Stratifi Team Loves from 2022

As 2022 comes to a close, it’s time we reflect and analyze the trends in the design community that captivated us all. It’s no surprise that day-to-day life and current events impact our choices, and consequently design is no exception. As we continuously try to relate to others and create content and pieces that speak to the hearts and minds of our peers, trends naturally develop over time. Therefore, we couldn’t be more excited to share some of these incredible movements in the visual arts field. Before we all move on to 2023, here are some of the best design trends that the Team at Stratifi loves, 2022!

Nature Inspired Design Trend

Firstly, with everything from hand-drawn, organic illustrations to muted color palettes, Nature-inspired designs took off this year. The combination of modern technology and natural, authentic elements creates work that is both relatable and refreshing. More people are working from home than ever before, so it’s understandable why people are beginning to crave nature in their spaces.

Diversity in Visual Design

Our core values and identities inform our choices, and now more than ever customers are interested in brands that share their unique values. Gone are the days of cookie-cutter brands that lack character and diversity. We are finally seeing a shift in visuals to include more variety, from inclusive photography and illustrations to designs that incorporate a wide range of people groups and the values that represent them.

Anti-Design Design Trend

Moving on to a slightly controversial take, anti-design is taking the world by storm. Unlike traditional graphic design, this trend breaks all the rules with unconventional choices and self-expression. Comparatively, anti-design presents a stark contrast from design standards in which clean, modern, and business-oriented creations once dominated. Personally, we believe there is room for the purposefully chaotic clashing of colors and textures, as long as more formal design continues to hold the respect it deserves alongside it.

90s Nostalgia Design

Move over 80’s, the 90’s is making its comeback. With so much of pop culture focused on nostalgia, it makes sense that design trends would follow. In 2022, we saw a significant increase in 90s-inspired design. From candy-like colors to Memphis design patterns, simple emojis and primitive internet frames, this trend is sure to catch the eye.

Eccentric Typography

Another trend that is somewhat similar to Anti-Design is the increased use of eccentric typography. Things like twisted type, mixing fonts and altering sizing between letters makes for interesting compositions. Basically, this form of typography applies to any deviation from the norm. This unique form of type pulls readers in and makes them think about what they are reading in a way traditional type can sometimes lack.
